Mission Statement

To provide a location for the development, archiving and sharing of useful scripts & macros. To provide a forum for the discussion of user tasks in OpenOffice.org that could be automated by scripts.

Project Summary

To date, discussion of macros has taken place on the mailing lists of several OpenOffice.org projects, most notably the dev@api.openoffice.org list. This project aims to provide a single location for all things relating to macros & scripting.

The next steps for this project are:

  1. To encourage those who have posted script & macro code fragments to the mailing lists to join the project and contribute their scripts.
  2. To encourage discussion among OpenOffice.org users & developers to identify common tasks that could be automated by scripts.
  3. To determine an extensible scheme for the classification & archiving of contributed scripts & macros (ie. a good site structure).
  4. To find a co-lead, developers & content contributors.
  5. To determine conditions under which scripts should become part of the OpenOffice.org install sets

Andrew Pitonyak's Macro Document
 This is an excellent introduction to StarBasic programming which contains many useful macros.
OOoMacros
 Another repository for Macros, documentation on macro writing, code snippets and links.
Macros from French native-lang project
 Writer documents containing assorted macros (comments in French).
Andrew Brown's Useful macros A page of assorted StarBasic macros which, among other things:
  • Change case
  • Transpose two letters
  • Word count (including count of selected text)
OOoDocs
 A forum for OpenOffice.org users & developers. The forum contains a macros & API section. There are also some Writer & Calc Macros in the Downloads section.
OOoForum
 Another forum for OpenOffice.org users & developers. Also contains a macros & API section.
Scripting Framework Utility Scripts
 Scripts in Java & BeanShell which:
  • Post a Writer document to a newsgroup.
  • Place the results of an Issuezilla query in a Writer/Calc document.
  • Export the current Writer document to HTML.
Note that these require the installation of the Scripting Framework.

Participation

This project welcomes input from all OpenOffice.org community members be they developers, scripters or users. It is expected that much of the work will take place on the dev@scripting.openoffice.org mailing list, which can viewed by clicking on the "Mailing Lists" link in the navbar above.
